Outreach
The Oakville Quilters Guild is proud of its Outreach contributions to the Oakville community and beyond. Through our Outreach Program, we make and donate quilts to a number of charities in Oakville. In our 2022/23 year we donated 95 quilts to:
- Healthy Babies, Healthy Homes
- Hope Place; Kerr St Mission
- Oak Park Community Centre
- Meals on Wheels (as well as 90 placemats)
- Oakville Parent/Child Centre
- Patty’s Place
- SAVIS
The quilts are various sizes, from lap and baby quilts to single, double and queen bed quilts.
Many members quilt at home and donate quilt tops or finished quilts to Outreach. Some pick up quilting kits or placemat kits at a guild meeting or Outreach, work on them at home, then hand them in when finished. Others get together monthly to make kits to be quilted, sew on labels, sort through our fabrics, pull fabrics for backings and bindings, cut batting and work on quilts. Some make up kits for placemats for Meals on Wheels, often consisting of fabric strips or orphan blocks that need borders. The back is usually a Christmas/winter fabric.
Outreach meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month from Sept to June.
Come anytime between 10:00 am and 2:30 pm.
Location: Activity Room 3 at Trafalgar Park Older Adults Centre
133 Rebecca St, Oakville
To interest others in quilting, this is also a Drop-In Activity for 50+ seniors in the community. As a result, a current Oakville Senior Services Membership is required unless just dropping off quilts or picking up a kit. See more about this membership on page 6 (printed page 4). Depending on what you prefer to do when you come, bring
- a cutting mat
- quilting ruler
- rotary cutter
- a small sewing kit
- your own project to work on with required equipment
