An easy way to find out how much binding fabric you will need for a round quilt: measure across the centre of the circle. Take this measurement and multiply by 3.1416. For example, if the circle measures 28", times that by 3.1416 and you will get 87.96". Cut your binding larger to ensure that you can fasten it together.
After you straight stitch your binding in place, sew down the same side using a zigzag stitch through all the layers avoiding the straight stitching. You will find that it is easier to turn your binding for hand stitching.
